AUGH! I've been trapped in the creative doldrums for a good solid month now!

Do you ever go through those periods of time when you just don't feel inspired to pick up a pencil?  Brief periods of a few days every now and then are normal for me.  I figure they're like a time for recharging the creative batteries.  But once in a while, an extended lapse like this one occurs, and I hate it!

The worst part is, I know I technically want to draw, but my brain just can't be bothered to respond in kind. I've looked at the works of beloved artists, watched animation, and gone to all the other usual sources of inspiration, but it hasn't clicked yet.  Any tricks you guys/gals like to try when you're in a slump?

It will pass, and I'll be back to creating mediocre cartoon art before much longer! I always am.  I just thought I'd take a moment to complain about it.  Mainly because my last journal entry was getting to be a bit outdated and I needed it off the main page!

I keep a folder of just random images I find on my desktop. Spaceshuttle launch, sports dude, some porn, cool sports car, whatever. I then just open like 15 of these images and just sketch them. no questions, no thought, just sketch from them.

For me the doldrum is usually strapped to me not knowing what to draw, so just taking that out of the equation gets me moving again.

another thing I do, for pin ups, sketch up real loose a half dozen poses. then over the course of a week or whatever, I clothing and make the poses into something.

for the super deep doldrum, I usually have to hit a comic convention to get moving again. seeing original art usually gets me moving again....
